About us

our story

“There are plenty of scholarships for the 4.0 GPA students and students who are super active in school and their community; but did anyone ever consider 2.5 and 3.0 students who can’t participant in extra curriculum actives because they need to work a part-time job want to go to college too”?

This statement pierced the heart and soul of our founder, L. Renee Haynes. In that moment she knew that statement was her call to action. In that very moment, she recalled how difficult it was to not just fund her daughter’s college education; but to locate a school that would accept her. You see, while her daughter was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 8 years old, L. Renee had every intention on her daughter attending college. And she was committed to her daughter’s learning disability NOT preventing her from doing so. However, as they began to do the activities related to attending a college/university (i.e., competing entrance exams, applying for schools, financial aid, etc.), it became very clear there was one thing could, funding.

You see, her daughter’s college entrance exams (e.g., ACT, SAT) scores were low. Additionally, her daughter’s cumulative grade point average (GPA) trended between a 2.2 and 2.8. And with majority of the scholarship/grants requiring at least a 3.0 GPA; her daughter did not meet the qualifications to apply. Additionally, their household was not considered low-income. Which meant, for her daughter to attend college, L. Renee would have to pay out of pocket.

Version is committed to addressing this inequity by providing financial assistance, resources and guidance to students who do not meet your traditional scholarships and/or situational (e.g., low-income) requirements. Here at Versions, we will recognize and support young people who would otherwise be overlooked, due to being considered by some as “average” in intelligence and economical standing.

Many of today’s scholarship programs and various other resources are geared towards young people who are highly intelligent, active in their schools or community and those who come from low-income families/communities. However, there are many young people who do not fit either of these categories, desire to further their education, yet do not have to financial means of doing so. This fuel the energy and passion for Version to make a difference. Through our scholarships, grand and other various resources, we are working to address this deficient.
